After the mother weaned her four babies, she sent them up and over the fence once last time and out of our lives. I wonder whatever happened to them and I still wish them well.
The mother instructed and encouraged them to go up the fence and down on the other side. It wasn't easy and she had to demonstrate the procedure more than once and I could hear her urging them on. And finally she was left on this side alone. She then scrambled up and went on the other side and the family never returned. I thought about them for a long time and some neighbors with very large walnut trees, said she saw them up in the tops of her trees for a period of time and then they must have moved on to other destinations.
Part of the story telling has to do with my once upon a time job where I had to make illustrations for scientists and even the world court simple enough so that people were able to understand what I had drawn and what it did or was used for. But that is a whole other world.
We had good relations with this family. The mother to be came first and posed at my office window, either checking me out to see if I would be a fit landlord or she was just wanting to see what I thought of her. Anyway they lived under my shop and when weaned they all left and went over the fence one last time. I tried to add gravel and small stones to close up the holes they had made to get under the shop and so far, these several years later, they have not returned.

You always have such incredible pictures!
And I like the explanations going with them of course which explain everything.
so very cute, but so destructive, too! i hope they have forgotten the address to my barn and where my horse feed is stored. :)
